Plan your financial freedom

Net worth is the scoreboard for freedom

Net worth = what you own minus what you owe, expressed in NPR. Income shows speed; net worth shows position. Tracking it monthly or quarterly keeps Financial Freedom Nepal goals grounded.

Use the portfolio / net worth view as a living ledger rather than a once-a-year surprise.

List assets carefully

Include bank balances, fixed deposits, mutual fund current values (units × official NAV — look up live figures yourself), publicly traded shares if any, provident balances you can document, and conservative estimates of property.

Be honest about liquidity. A house you live in is an asset, but it may not fund monthly groceries without a sale or loan.

  • Update mutual fund values from official NAV sources.
  • Do not invent property appreciation each month.
  • Record foreign accounts converted at a consistent FX method.

List liabilities completely

Home loans, personal loans, hire-purchase, credit card balances, and informal family debts that you will repay all reduce net worth. Omitting them creates false progress.

Pair net-worth tracking with the Cashflow Dashboard so EMI flows and surplus remain visible.

Remittances and currency noise

If you hold foreign currency, NPR net worth will move when exchange rates move — even if you did nothing. Note FX effects separately from savings behavior so you do not misread progress.

Log remittance savings contributions in the Savings Tracker to separate “I saved” from “the rupee moved.”

FX swings are not investment skill. Interpret them with context.

A simple monthly ritual

Same day each month: update liquid balances, download or note fund values, update loan principals, compute net worth, and write one sentence on what changed. Fifteen focused minutes beat elaborate spreadsheets you abandon.

Quarterly, compare net worth to your FIRE target and savings rate.

What good progress looks like

Over a year, rising net worth driven by contributions and debt reduction is healthier than rising net worth driven only by a temporary market spike. If markets fall but contributions continue, you may still be on plan.

Net worth tracking is feedback for behavior — not a daily emotional referendum.
